The Cohen’s fifth thesis The Monster Polices the Borders of the Possible is the closest theses that I could relate to the movie. I chose this thesis because while watching the movie I noticed that the scientists who were telling everyone to kill all the zombies were seen as monsters worse than the zombies. The zombies relate to this thesis by their relationships with humans. Whether they were a family member, a friend, a partner, coworker, or anything like that humans didn’t want to kill them. The relationships humans had with the zombies prevented them from killing them. The zombies policed the border of freedom and sanity which are possible. The doctor at the beginning of the movie talked about how he understands that the zombies are people who we once knew but if they and killed them all sooner none of this would be happening. He was mocked by the camera crew and the tv station workers. They were getting angry with him and this shows how the relationships the humans had with the zombies before they were zombies affected if the zombies continued to live.

Humans kept looking for the humanity in the zombies even though scientists told them they act with mechanical instincts. Since people kept seeing them as human then the possibilities of freedom and sanity kept getting farther and farther away. The zombies truly policed those possibilities, because they were people that had relationships. Anyone that told them all those zombies should be killed they were seen as the monsters. Like the other scientist with the eyepatch he said they should drop nuclear bombs in all the major cities to get rid of these zombies. He was then yelled at by the person interviewing him and the tv crew that was recording it. When he offered a way to get rid of the border he is ridiculed. The zombies forced the Roger, Peter, Stephen, and Francine to be trapped within the walls of a mall. While other people were trapped in other buildings. But as time went on Peter, Stephen, and Francine started to lose their sanity. They were losing it by Stephen and Francine were constantly fighting and in disagreement and Francine even says “What have we done to ourselves?”. Being trapped in that mall for months can make any relationships strain and make you want freedom more. The zombies police that mall they prevent them from having the freedom they need. If they were to step outside without zombies there they would get some of their sanity back. Being trapped in places for too long can make people grow tired of being trapped especially if there is a threat outside and you know you can’t.
