Reading and Writing in Digital Environments

My Brief Description

In this course, you learn how to navigate around the internet and learn how to properly blog. You also learn how to express yourself via your ePortfolio. The different styles you can use along with using the advice from the readings to help make your ePortfolio different from the standard. All of the readings are mostly based on that chosen writer’s view and advice about blogging, ePortfolios, and the internet itself. The blogging assignment really gives you the freedom to look into what you are interested in and helps you learn how to write and present better. There are assignments called DS106 which were honestly a highlight of my week because they really allow you to express yourself and have fun. You’re taught how to make GIFs for example. It is required for the students to take coding lessons.

UNE Course Description

“This course takes a hands-on approach to exploring, reading and writing in digital (web) environments. Students in the course consider ways that digital writing environments create opportunities for writers to address multiple audiences, to bring together visual and alphabetic texts and to involve readers in the construction of those texts. Students in the course develop a variety of digital texts including blogs, website and wikis. Students’ work is collected in an ePortfolio design and assembled over the course of the term. This course is an elective in the English major and minor, the Writing minor, and the Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities major.”

3 Key things that I learned:

  • I learned how to code using Codeacademy. Which is something that I never thought I could learn but I did it.
  • Those who have ePortfolios have the opportunity to really show off their personality and work better than a resume could. It allows for more opportunities.
  • The font can matter a lot for a website. Depending on the font it can hurt or elevate your website.

Sample of Work

To showcase what I have learned in this class I have attached links to my first blog post and my last one. By showing these two posts it shows my improvements and how I listened to the advice in the readings that were required. By just looking at them the way they are right now you can already see the difference.
